Young Advisors Internationally! Find information about what the Young Advisors have been doing in terms of international work! Report by Eliot of recent visit by Czech young people
First off, on the Monday we showed them around the sites and shops of Catford and Lewisham, taking them through the parks and the large shops (mainly Primark). Then on Tuesday we took them to see Tower Bridge and the Tower of London for a while, after which we took them to the Czech Republic Embassy in Kensington. For a slight change from sightseeing, on the Wednesday, we took them down into Ladywell where the QUERCUS Project is re-designing the park. So we thought we would give them a helping hand. So we got on some wellies and went down to help clean up the river, finding some odd things along the way such as old bikes, computers, car registration plates, bottles, crabs and shoes. Thursday was a good day, we took the Czechs to the Houses of Parliament and then went to visit the Greater London Authority and the British Youth Council. Friday, we planned a big day of real sightseeing taking them to the London Eye, so they could see the whole of London . Saturday was the last full day so we split up into small groups going places like London Dungeon, Madame Tussauds, British Museum , Camden Town and a full-on shopping spree.
Troyangel's Report On Sunday 19 August 2007, me, Dami, Malcolm and Katy travelled up to Victoria bus station to collect our Czech Republic visitors and bring them back to Catford. As it was a Sunday it took forever to travel around London, in total it took over 2 hours to get to their housing which was placed near the Lewisham Town Hall. After a few hours we left them to make themselves at home. On Monday them met most of the other Young Advisors at the civic suite where we played a few games and go told where are going everyday. After that we were split into groups and took them around the borough. My group was 2 Young Advisors and 5 Czech people. We took them to Lewisham Centre and Primark (where we spent 45 minutes!). We came back to Catford and took them to Nando’s.
On Wednesday we met nice and early at Ladywell Park for our activities. When we all turned up we split into 2 equal groups (which was evenly split with Young Advisors and Czech people). The first group were wading and the second was to clean this small area of wildlife. I was in the first group and we had to walk through Ravensbourne river and pick up most litter around that area. After lunch we swapped around and had a go at the cleaning of Wildlife. It was hard work but the result looked really good. On Thursday, the went to the Houses of Parliament and I met them in the afternoon for a meeting with the Youth Parliament which I found really interesting. Once again we took them back to Catford for some food. On Friday morning we split into groups to travel around London. Most wanted to go to Oxford Street and around that area. We had lunch in our individual groups and met up after lunch with the whole group to go on the London Eye. Again we split into even groups for 2 pods. We travelled back to their house for food and most stayed their the rest of the night. On Saturday, 2 of the Czech people asked me to go Madame Tussauds with them, so Eliot came as well. Both Czech people enjoyed their time loads. On Sunday, me, Dami, Eliot, Malcolm and Katy took them back to the Victoria Bus Station and we were all upset to see the Prague people go because it was such a great week and we would miss them a lot. Maddy's Report Although I was not involved in the LBL/P7 exchange in November of 2006, meaning I did not visit the Czech Republic, I was delighted to be included in the event hosted by our own Young Advisors group.
I feel the project was a definite success. I think everyone enjoyed themselves on a diplomatic and social way, that it has brought our own forum closer together, that we have all learnt a little - and done a lot.
Bulgarian visit 2006 In 2006 some of our Bulgarian partners came over to visit and help with the running of the Young Mayor elections. Here are some photos from the event where the Young Advisors helped welcome them in Lewisham Town Hall.
